makeup & fashion trends for women over 50

As we age, our makeup and fashion needs and preferences can change. We, obviously, still want to look and feel our best, but what worked for us when we were in our 20s and 30s, may not work the same once we hit 40 and 50. Here are a few makeup and fashion trends that help women over 50 still feel their fashionable best.

  • Natural makeup looks: Many women over 50 prefer a natural, understated makeup look that enhances their natural beauty rather than masking it. To achieve this, opt for neutral shades of eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick, and use a light hand when applying foundation and concealer.

  • Glitter makeup looks: Believe it or not, women can still wear glitter makeup once they hit 50, and beyond. We may just need to adjust how, and wear, we are wearing it. Try using it as an eyeliner at the bottom of your top lid, right above your eyelashes. I find putting a normal eyeliner on provides the grip your glitter makeup may need to make it stay.

  • Experiment with color: If you are not one of those who like to stick to natural makeup, or even if you are but you like a little more pizzaz every now and again, don’t shy away from color. Again, it’s more in how you apply your makeup, not in the color you are using. And, here’s a little tip, apply your eyeshadow slightly above your eyelid crease, this gives the illusion of a larger lid. And make sure to swipe across, or up to give your eyes a lift, not down

  • Swap powder for liquid makeup: As women over 50, we know what powder does to our fine lines and wrinkles. Ditch the powder and opt for liquid makeup instead. There are many. MANY, high quality liquid products that stay all day, so don’t be afraid to try them

  • Statement eyewear: Eyewear can be a fashion statement at any age, and women over 50 can rock bold frames and lenses to add interest to their look. From colorful frames to oversized sunglasses, there are many options to choose from.

  • Tailored clothing: As we age, our bodies may change, and clothing that is too baggy or ill-fitting can make us look older than we are. Tailored clothing, such as blazers, jackets, and dresses that fit well and skim the body, can flatter the figure and make us look and feel our best.

  • Monochromatic outfits: Wearing clothes in the same color family can create a cohesive and sophisticated look. Choose a color that complements your skin tone and mix and match pieces in different shades and textures for a stylish outfit.

  • Accessorize: Accessories, such as scarves, hats, and jewelry, can add interest and personality to an outfit. Choose pieces that reflect your personal style and that complement your clothing.

Remember, the most important thing when it comes to makeup and fashion is to wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Experiment with different trends and find what works best for you and your personal style.
